SARA Café Welcomes C.A. Speakman!

C A Speakman picSC:  When did you join SARA and for what reason?

CAS:  I’m a recent SARA member, just joining this year. This chapter is so active and supportive of its members; I wanted to be a part of that community.

SC:  What sub-genre of romance stories do you write?

CAS:  Contemporary western romance, contemporary romance, paranormal, horror with romantic elements, and satirical erotica mashups.

SC:  What about the romance genre appeals to you?

CAS:  No matter how bad things get, there’s always a way through it to something better.

SC:  Do you consider yourself a romantic?

CAS:  Yes

SC:   If you could have any actor/actress cast as the hero/heroine of your latest work, who would you choose and why?

CAS:  Kate Hudson or Mila Kunis, Zac Efron or Bradley Cooper – When I start something I mentally cast the characters. It helps me make sure that the voices of each character stays unique and true to them.

SC:  Do you have a writing routine?  What does it involve?

CAS:  Maybe because of writing at night for so long, my writing brain usually doesn’t turn on until 3pm but then it stays amped until about 3am. During the week I write from 8-10, and then Friday and Saturday nights turn into marathons.

SC:  What do you do when you’re not writing?  Do you have any hidden talents?

CAS:  When I’m not writing and not buried in my day job, I do cover art. I did it for fun for a couple of years for friends, but recently I set up offering premade covers as well as custom cover design services.

SC:  What is your favorite part of the writing process?

CAS:  The first 500 words

SC:  What would happen if you didn’t write?

CAS:  I find other less sensible outlets for that energy.  On the other hand, those things have given me a lot of fodder for plots!

SC:   How do you know when your research is done?

CAS:  LOL, my research never ends. I am a major information geek. I’m always chasing obscure bits to weave into my plots.

SC:  Name one thing you absolutely can’t write about.

CAS:  In my books, you’ll never see an animal get hurt.

SC:   I’m so glad you’ve joined SARA. Thanks for taking time to share with us!
